I just want to say to the lady who has delivered the bulk of this course: everything you said is pure gold! I have gone back and listened many times to your videos while doing UX research for my portfolio project. I think on every replay I have found something of value to take away. Thanks you for making this course. Also want to point out something that I think could be improved: there is no coverage of how to write/note down "business requirements". I found that writing something like a Vision statement from Unified Process was extremely helpful. In the initial client meeting for discussing these, I took along index cards and Sharpies and built a little storymap of the main features (a bit like the Customer Journey Map in the course) and discussed user types (to be expanded into personas later) as well as high level goals. Being able to scribble jointly on cards for goals, personas and features while arranging them into a map led to a greate conversation and a good Vision statement and secondary research. The latter yielded a nice demographic profile of the target audience which informed my UX Research goals.

The UX design process is a structured approach to creating user-friendly experiences, which involves five key stages. The first three stages are Empathize, Define, and Ideate.

During the Empathize stage, designers conduct research and collect data to understand the user's needs and behavior. This stage is critical to developing a deep understanding of the user and their challenges.

In the Define stage, designers use the insights gained during Empathize to define the problem they are trying to solve. They create a clear problem statement, which serves as the foundation for the rest of the design process.

The Ideate stage is where designers brainstorm and generate lots of ideas to solve the problem. The goal is to produce as many ideas as possible, without worrying about their feasibility.

Overall, the Empathize, Define, and Ideate stages are crucial to the success of the UX design process. By taking the time to understand the user, defining the problem, and generating creative solutions, designers can create experiences that truly meet the needs of their users.

I recently completed the second of the UX Design course, and it has been an incredible learning experience. Led by Coursera, the course's well-structured curriculum and engaging teaching style kept me captivated throughout. Starting with the basics and progressing to advanced topics like user research and interaction design, each module built upon the previous one seamlessly. What truly set this course apart was its emphasis on hands-on experience. With practical projects and peer reviews, I could apply the theories to real-world design challenges, while the focus on user-centered design principles reinforced the core aspects of effective UX design. The comprehensive course materials, interactive quizzes, and a supportive community in the discussion forums made this an invaluable investment for my UX design journey. I can confidently say that I feel much more equipped to tackle UX challenges after completing this course, and I highly recommend it to anyone looking to enhance their UX design skills.

"I just finished the Google UX: Empathize, Define and Ideate course and I am incredibly impressed with the quality of the content. The course gave me a solid understanding of the fundamental principles of user experience and how to apply them in practice.

The focus on empathy was especially valuable to me as I learned to see users as human beings with unique wants, needs, and frustrations. The definition process also helped me focus on the key issues that need to be resolved to achieve a successful user experience.

The ideation process was very practical and helped me come up with a lot of creative ideas to address the identified problems. The course also included a wealth of tools and resources that allowed me to put what I had learned into practice.

In general, I would recommend this course to anyone who is interested in learning about UX and how to apply it in practice. It was a great asset to my career and has significantly enhanced my approach to product design.".

This course focused on the first three phases of the 5 Phase Design Thinking Process: (1) Empathize, (2) Define and (3) Ideate. IGoogle provided an excellent curriculum and the instructor was a good presenter. Anyone taking this course will understand and have experience crafting: Empathy Maps, Personas, User Stories, User Journey Maps, Problem Statements, Hypothesis Statements, Value Propositions, How Might We’s, Crazy Eights and Competitive Audits.  I enjoyed considering important topics along the way like accessibility, and how psychology and human factors influence design. I look forward to the next course in the series.

I would suggest that it will be great if there is a seperate section to download the templates like, storyboard template, case study, usability study templates, etc. so that I can use them whenever I want to make a document. I could not find unless I go back to classes and find them if I need.

Other than that I loved this course, everything is to the point and so smooth learning experience. This is the best online course I have taken, it made self study so wonderful , the instrcutions were so clear and easy to follow and interesting at the same time. Everthing is so well thoughtful classes and assignments are great too!

This course is a great follow-up to the foundation course in this program. While the first course slowly gave you an idea of the world of UX, this course delves deeper into it by bringing us into the whole design cycle and teaching us the most important parts of UX design: empathizing with the user, defining the problem and ideating solutions.

I highly recommend beginners to pay most attention to this course as understanding this course really helps you move through the next several courses comfortably. The instructor was great in this too, taking time to enunciate all words in a careful and understandable way.

This course is on the way to being an excellent way to learn UX design research and thinking. One of the effective aspects of the course design is that for each graded project, there is first a practice project with a detailed exemplar. The only downside of this course is the community aspect. There are so many threads with posts, it's hard to keep track of where you've posted in the past. As far as I know, there isn't an easy way to see if anyone has replied to your posts. I could just be missing this feature, but if it were more obvious, I don't think this would be an issue.

Review: The ideate phase is where creativity and innovation come into play. By generating and exploring a variety of ideas, designers can find novel solutions and approaches that may not have been initially apparent. The Empathize, Define, and Ideate phases are foundational in the UX design process. They ensure that the design is user-centered and effectively addresses real problems. By thoroughly understanding users, clearly defining the problem, and generating a range of ideas, designers can create solutions that are both innovative and impactful.

This was a lot of fun. I'm glad I took this course since it helps me put what I've learned in past classes into perspective, practice, and a broader view of the UX designer work. On several instances, I fell into a deep flow, the clock ticked away, and the day faded into night. There were many tough moments of bewilderment and weariness since combining education with a full-time work is a struggle in and of itself, the duties demand a huge dose of imagination, and it's nothing new that creativity and sleepiness don't get along.

Overall, this course is one of my favorite because it provides a lots of practical research methods. Competitive audit is great and practical research method that you can use it from today. At the same time, the research activity was very time consuming, probably it took about 2 hours for me to complete, although the review process was very light. I would suggest to make more steps to complete the research so that you can have more review steps each time. Having said that, this course is great.

Love all this:

- variety of video content + readings + practice quizzes + practical exercises + interactive exercises - peer-reviewed assignments help you get ideas from what others have written - great video and sound quality - links to extra, optional readings - transcripts and closed captions are spelled correctly / grammatically correct - videos sometimes interrupted with a quick course-related question to make sure you're still paying attention - practice quizzes show how you can improve

Almost everything I liked in this course. Ideation, Brainstrom design ideas by sketching, How Might We Exercise, Crazy Eights Exercise, and also the audit report. All of these were so engaging and new to me that I was very involved in all of the exercises. The most challenging thing for me was to create an audit report, as the definition of my project is something not too complex and also somewhat unique. The way they've taught this part of the entire course is really easy and understandable.

I've learned so much from this program. UX design is really much harder than I expected when I started this course. So much human psychology, people's relation, thinking, speech, and writing skills involved.... I especially appreciate the well-thought out program with the bite size lessons that allow us to learn gradually in our own speed. Thank you Google. The visual aid within each lesson and instructors' friendly tone and encouragement are also greatly helpful to learn.
