Michelle Aebersold PhD, RN, MSBA, CHSE, FSSH, FAAN Academic Program Director, Clinical Professor of Nursing, School of Nursing and Clinical Associate Professor of Information, School of Information Dr. Michelle Aebersold is a Clinical Professor at the University of Michigan School of Nursing, a Clinical Associate Professor in the School of Information, and an XR Faculty Innovator in Residence. She is a Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator and a Fellow in the American Academy of Nursing and the Society for Simulation in Healthcare. She has a Bachelor’s degree in nursing, a Master of Science in Business Administration and a PhD in Nursing. Dr. Aebersold’s leadership experience includes roles on boards, advisory committees and in the practice environments. As a Nurse Leader she assisted with the development and opening of The University of Michigan Health’s Stroke Unit in the 1990’s and the first certification for ASA Get With the Guidelines-Stroke as well as the TJC Certification as a Stroke Center. Dr. Aebersold also developed the simulation program for the UM School of Nursing and oversaw the development of the 13,000 square foot simulation center, which opened in 2015. Dr. Aebersold teaches in the area of leadership, analytics, quality and safety at the graduate level. She also teaches in the Nurse Executive Leadership Academy in her practice role. In addition to her teaching, Dr. Aebersold has extensive experience in using a variety of simulation learning methods including Extended Realities to improve the care of patients through caregiver education and training. She engages in grant-funded projects using immersive virtual reality for team training, practice readiness, and multidisciplinary collaboration to improve healthcare. Dr. Aebersold has numerous publications, presents on a variety of topics and is often an invited speaker at international, regional, and local conferences.
